Why the Methodology Behind the Detail Matters

Veterans and law enforcement officers often assume their background qualifies them for executive protection. It does not — at least not without specific EP training. Military personnel are trained to locate and engage threats. Law enforcement officers investigate and arrest. Executive protection requires a different mindset entirely: avoidance, low-profile movement, and protecting a principal who usually does not want to look like they need protection.

Pilum Tactical's EP agents have made that transition. They have trained in advance work, threat assessment, motorcade operations, evacuation protocols, and the soft skills required to operate in corporate and government environments while remaining tactically aware. That training was designed by Marine Corps and Navy SEAL veterans who have worked protection details — not just taught classes about them.

The Three-Phase Advance Methodology

Every Pilum executive protection engagement begins before the principal ever leaves their location. Our advance process identifies risks, eliminates unknowns, and builds contingencies before day one.

Phase 1 — Pre-Advance (Intelligence Gathering)

Direct meeting with the principal or their executive assistant. We collect all pertinent information: schedules, known threats, personal concerns, travel requirements, and operational objectives. No assumption is made without data.

Phase 2 — Trip Advance (Logistics Finalization)

Finalization of all logistics established in the pre-advance — transportation, accommodations, event timelines, communication protocols, and documented contingency plans for every scenario deviation.

Phase 3 — Physical Site Advance (On-the-Ground Verification)

Before the principal arrives, Pilum agents physically travel to each site. We walk the entire plan, inspect facilities, assess access points, conduct a security sweep, and gather real-time intelligence from local contacts — a detail most security firms skip.

PILUM

EP Training Curriculum Our Agents Have Completed

Pilum Tactical's executive protection training program builds the complete skill set required for professional close protection. Every agent Pilum deploys has trained in:

  • Advance work — route surveys, site security, venue analysis, and emergency action plan development
  • Threat assessment — risk profiling, vulnerability evaluation, and mitigation strategy development
  • Close protection tactics — walking formations (diamond, box, linear), vehicle entry/exit, and environmental transitions
  • Motorcade operations — driver positioning, counter-ambush response, and emergency protocols
  • Emergency evacuation — immediate action drills when threats materialize in real time
  • Low-profile security — operating in corporate and government environments without disrupting operations
  • Defensive firearms for close protection environments
  • Tactical medical response — TCCC-level first aid during a detail
  • Principal interaction — communication protocols and professional conduct that maintains client confidence

Training culminates in realistic protection scenarios where agents operate as a detail in real urban environments — applying advance work, formations, and emergency procedures against live role-players under instructor evaluation.

FAQs

What advance methodology does Pilum use for executive protection?

Pilum's three-phase advance process — pre-advance, trip advance, and physical site advance — was developed by Marine Corps and Navy SEAL veterans and is the same framework taught in Pilum Tactical's executive protection training curriculum. Every detail begins with a pre-advance intelligence gathering meeting, proceeds through logistical finalization, and includes a physical walk-through of every site before the principal arrives.

How are Pilum's EP agents different from those offered by a standard security firm?

Pilum Tactical's EP agents have completed a comprehensive training program covering advance work, threat assessment, motorcade operations, close protection formations, emergency evacuation, defensive firearms, and tactical medical response — the same curriculum delivered to EP students in our professional training program. They are not licensed guards assigned to a protection role. They are trained EP professionals.

Does Pilum provide executive protection outside Colorado?

Yes. Pilum holds active licensing and operational capability in Colorado, Nevada, Florida, and New York. For principals with multi-state travel requirements, Pilum provides consistent protection under a single chain of command across all four states.

Can government agencies use Pilum for dignitary protection?

Yes. Pilum is a GSA Schedule holder and SDVOSB with documented past performance protecting members of the Colorado Executive Branch in coordination with the Colorado State Patrol. Government agencies can engage Pilum directly through the GSA Schedule vehicle. CAGE: 70NP0 | DUNS: 038561624 | SAM Registered.
